5 out of 5 stars Apple Does It Right   February 3, 2010

This is a marvelous gadget for those with older Power Macs. Its easy to set up and use. A great tool when used with iChat to connect with family and friends.

5 out of 5 stars Great device   July 4, 2009

We have been very happy with the isight on our other MAC. When we decided to get our son a MAC we got him the MAC Pro Desktop so no built in isight.

Found it was not easy to get an external isight but found it at Amazon at a great price for new in the box.

The camera quality as well as the audio are unmatched in my opinion as well as the fire wire connection instead of USB.

5 out of 5 stars This cam smokes any p.c. web cam I have seen by far.   January 23, 2009

It is ashamed Apple was forced to pulled these off of there shelves. I am grateful I was able to get mine on Amazon in the nick of time before they disappeared for good. Thank you Amazon, you have come through for me once again. I am two years late in writing a review for this Isight so actually it is a good thing because I have accidently dropped the ISight off it's magnetic base from the monitor to my desktop a few times and the Isight keeps on ticking. So that has to be a good sign that the Isight is built rock solid like all other Apple products.

5 out of 5 stars iSight webcam   December 12, 2008

The iSight webcam is an excellent product for personal viewing. Clipping it to a laptop lid is a bit worrisome both for possible tapping on table when lid is closed and for firmly staying put. I suggest a separate, stable holder for it; a webcam with a shorter physical length would have been an improvement.

4 out of 5 stars Still a great choice for legacy Mac users   November 2, 2008

Let me first say that I'm taken aback by the outrageous prices being asked by private sellers here for new, unopened units. For something that originally retailed for $149, a $490+ asking price is a bit much. Sure, it's no longer in production and is basically a collectible item now but still...

I considered buying a used one here but decided to slug it out on the bay instead and found a pristine one for about half the price of the original new selling price and it included all original parts and packaging.

I am a legacy PPC user and my machine is so old that it only supports USB 1.1. As such, my choices are very limited. There are a few firewire units still being made that are compatible but the form factor and mounting options kept me coming back to the iSight. I have tried some of the other compatible units but they all fell short in some way, be it integrated audio, picture quality or again, the mounting options. After receiving my unit and using it for a few weeks now, I can say that I'm happy with my decision.

Using Ecamm software's iGlasses with the iSight solves its color balance and low-light problems. The only thing I wish they had incorporated was a manual/auto-focus switching mechanism. Other than that, I can't complain and getting a used iSight WAY after the fact has breathed new life into this old dinosaur. For me, the iSight is still a very good camera for the PPC (and especially pre-USB 2.0) user.
